RE: INTERPRETERS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES
The San Diego City School District, as part of its Corrective Action Plan to improve Special Education Services, is developing a list of bilingual persons willing and qualified to act as interpreters. The district is making available a survey to paraeducators, volunteers, parents and community members interested in providing their services as interpreters.
The district will train those interested. District employees will be paid for services beyond their regular work day or during noncontract time. Parents and community members who are not district employees will be paid an hourly rate.
There is a need for interpreters in the many different languages spoken by our students and parents. Interpreters will help in explaining the special education programs and procedures to parents at assessment meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and for assessments given by psychologists.
Interested parents and community members should contact their local school, or the Special Education program at 225-3601.
