RE: CORRECTIVE ACTION PLAN FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The San Diego Board of Education is moving ahead in its commitment to provide an appropriate public education to all students with disabilities, including those with language needs, with a corrective action plan that includes the funding of a new state monitor.

As part of our continuing efforts to work with state and federal agencies, the district has contracted with state monitor, Dr. Fred Weintraub. Dr. Weintraub will be collecting information and monitoring the implementation of the actions the district has agreed to take in order to bring the special education program into compliance with federal and state law. He will be willing to hear any comments, suggestions or complaints that district parents or staff may have about the compliance plan or special education matters. Dr. Weintraubıs office is located at Pacific Beach Middle School. His telephone number is 581-2146.

Parents and staff will be free from retaliation for speaking with or providing information to the monitor or filing a complaint with the California Department of Education or the Office for Civil Rights. Any complaint of retaliation may be reported to the California Department of Education or the Office for Civil Rights.
