RE: DISTRICT SEEKS PARENT ADVICE ON NEW TEACHER CONTRACT
Parents and other community members will have the opportunity to tell school district officials what they think should be included in a collective bargaining agreement with the San Diego Teachers Association.
The current contract negotiated in February 1996 expires June 30, 1998.
"During the five-day teachers' strike in 1996, many parents and several parent organizations indicated their desire to have input into the contract," Ruth Peshkoff, employee services director for the district, said.
"We want parents and community members to have the chance to tell the district what they think should be included in the contract," Peshkoff said in announcing two forums open to the public.
The first forum is scheduled for Sept. 18 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Clairemont High School, 4150 Ute Dr. It will be followed on Sept. 27 by the final forum scheduled from 9-11 a.m. in the cafeteria at Bell Junior High School, 620 Briarwood Rd., in the eastern area of Paradise Hills.
The information gathered at the forums will be used to help plan contract provisions proposed by the district and the teachers' association.
Bargaining sessions between the district and the San Diego Teachers Association are set to begin in January. Both sides have indicated a goal of having a signed contract by March 31, 1998.
