RE: CITY SCHOOLS REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Registration information for students between kindergarten and 12th grade attending schools in San Diego has been announced by school officials.

Students attending the same elementary school as last year and planning to continue at that school do not need to register again. But all elementary students new to the school district and students who have moved into a new school attendance area during the summer should register.

Registration for elementary students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, at the school to be attended. School starts Sept. 2 at all 164 schools in the district.

To attend kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before Dec. 2, 1996. At registration, the parent must provide a copy of either a birth certificate, baptismal certificate or passport, plus evidence of immunization against polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus and hepatitis B or provide a permanent medical exemption or personal beliefs exemption.

Children entering first grade must provide a report of recent physical examination in addition to the immunization documentation.

Middle level and senior high school students who will be attending a school different from the school attended last year also should register at their new school.

In addition, some senior highs will be conducting program planning and self-scheduling for all returning students. The registration and program planning dates and times are different at the various middle level and senior high schools and may be obtained by calling the school of attendance. Middle level students should be accompanied by a parent at registration.

Information on which school a child will be attending can be obtained by calling 293-8010 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

Also, beginning Aug. 19, staff members will be on duty at all schools and available to answer questions.
