RE: SENIORS FACE TOUGHER GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Seniors planning to graduate with the class of 1998 in San Diego City Schools will be meeting new and tougher graduation requirements.

Students who graduate next June must meet a minimum standard of a 2.0 grade-point average in citizenship during their senior year. They are the first students effected by this new requirement, which was approved by the Board of Education earlier this year.

The 2.0 in citizenship complements the required 2.0 academic grade-point average necessary to receive a diploma in San Diego City Schools. The students who graduated in June were the first required to meet the increased academic standard, which previously had been a 1.5 grade-point average.

Seniors also must present a senior exhibition in order to receive a high school diploma. Each high school is responsible for developing its own exhibition criteria and many of the schools already have senior exhibitions in place.
