Marvin Elementary School Science Fair
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
TOPIC: Science Fair Projects
are experiments you perform based upon scientific research and testing. Any
topic that is interesting to you is worth exploring! If you have a question
about your topic, check with your teacher. Some places to find ideas for
projects are listed at the end of this packet.
PROCEDURE: THE SCIENTIFIC
METHOD. The steps are:
 |
Come up with a question in your
mind about something that you can test by doing an experiment. |
 |
Read/research your topic (all
projects will be required to have at least 5 references, so he sure to write
down your sources). |
 |
Make a guess, called a
hypothesis, about what you think your testing will show. |
 |
Make a list of the materials you
will need. |
 |
Decide on your procedure or
method for testing, and write it down. |
 |
Do your testing. The more samples
tested or the more repetitions done on the test, the better. |
 |
Write down your date or
observations. If you think graphs or charts will help others to understand
your results, make them! |
 |
Come to a conclusion about what
your results showed. Did you prove your hypothesis was correct, or did you
prove it to he incorrect? |
 |
All during your project keep a
journal or log that shows the days you worked on your project, and what you
did. |
DISPLAY
Prepare a display of your project.
The display board should be a 3- sided backboard (available commercially as
'presentation boards," at office supply and craft stores). Each section
should be no bigger than 2Ox3O inches. You can hand-write your pages or use a
computer. Neatness counts, Please keep in mind teachers and judges are looking
for displays that are done neatly by children, not done perfectly by parents!
 |
The center panel should contain
the title of your project and any visual materials (photos, drawings,
graphs, or charts). |
 | The side panels should have all of the supporting information –
questions, , hypothesis, materials, method, results, conclusion, references,
and any other visual materials. |
