Smart Phones

One of the great benefits of migrating our Email system to Exchange/Outlook is the ability to use Smart Phones which will sync the information in Exchange (Email, Contacts, Calendar) with your phone. You can pretty much do all of the things you do in Outlook on your Smart Phone. This is perfect for the employee that truly works in a mobile environment.

Blackberry's are NOT smartphones that sync to Exchange - Blackberry's are not supported.

Configuring your Smart Phone to Sync with Exchange

Warning do NOT connect your SmartPhone phone to your PC and attempt to set up Active Sync - if you do so it will cause problems. SmartPhones sync data through a wireless data network!

Please follow the directions below for a safe and dependable way to Sync your phone!

Synchronize Remotely with Server

Start > ActiveSync (5) > Menu > Options (1) > Server Settings (3) > Connection (4)

Required information to Sync with your Outlook account on the SDCS Exchange System:

User name: <your 6 digit employee id>
Password: <your Outlook (aka DWA) password>
Domain: SDCS
Save password: <click the box>
Server name: entourage.sandi.net
This server uses an SSL connection: <click the box>

Note: for instructions on how to enter letters, numbers, symbols, and upper or lower case, please read the instruction manual that came with your phone. The SDCS IT Dept. and Help Desk cannot provide instructions or assistance in using the mobile phone key pad.

Create Schedule to Sync with Server
Create a server synchronization schedule so that your information is automatically synchronized with the server at specified time intervals:

Start > ActiveSync (5) > Menu > Options (1) > Mobile Schedule

Note: frequent synchronization may cause the battery to run down sooner than expected, depending upon phone model and battery capacity. The SDCS IT Dept. recommends a 30 minute schedule. Remember that you can always manually sync by selecting:

Start > ActiveSync (5) > Sync

or by selecting the ActiveSync icon from the Home Screen. (See your phone manual for more details.)
