Application Process

We are now accepting single subject applications for the 2008 - 2009 school year.

The Elementary Bilingual Teaching Fellows program is suspended. No multiple subject applications will be accepted.
The California budget crisis has changed the landscape of hiring for the 2008-2009 school year. As a result, the district does not anticipate the need to hire additional multiple subject bilingual teachers. A new cohort of interns will not begin this Spring.

To apply for the General Education Teacher Internship with San Diego Unified School District please read the instructions below and then complete both parts of the application. You must do both parts (1 & 2) to be considered.
Part 1: Applying to San Diego Unified School District
An online application with the District must be completed first . Navigate to the District homepage to apply for employment as an intern. View Guide here.

Part 2: Applying to the Intern Program at Mission Beach Center

Complete the Single Subject Intern Application including the required essay . These documents can be submitted electronically (as an email attachment to be signed later or you can embed a scanned signature to: sandiegointern@sandi.net ), in person, or through postal mail. (click on the application link to download it to your computer in MS Word format)

Send or deliver the following documents to the Mission Beach Center to complete your application.

  • Letter of reference from a current or previous employer
  • Transcript(s)* - official copies with Bachelor’s degree posted
  • CBEST passing scores
  • CSET
    • Passing Scores
      • Mathematics 110, 111, 112
      • Biology 118, 119, 120
      • Chemistry 118, 119, 123
      • Physics 118, 119, 12
  • US Constitution Exam or Coursework (two semester units or three quarter units) in the Provisions and Principles of the U.S. Constitution, or pass an examination given by a regionally-accredited college or university, in San Diego go to the San Diego County Office of Education.

It is important that applicants keep both the online (district) and the paper (intern program) applications updated.

Official transcripts with Bachelor’s degree is required. Degree must be posted before entering the classroom in the fall. Acceptance into this program is contingent upon submission of all items shown above, including passing scores on CBEST and CSET (all three sections), and LOTE.
