Universal Preschool Initiative Research on the Value of Preschool The results of an extensive body of research continue to indicate a positive correlation between preschool attendance and student achievement. Children who have early opportunities for skill development will enter the K-12 program better prepared to succeed. More specifically, early childhood education has been associated with a decreased need for special education, fewer cases of grade retention, improved educational productivity, and enhanced well-being. Some of the more notable research efforts include: Preschool California Preschool California is a broad-based, multi-year, non-partisan advocacy campaign to achieve voluntary preschool for all 4-year-old children in California. The organization maintains a library of research on the value of preschool education. They have a number of reports related to the preschool initiative, and invite all interested parents and community members to join their listserv to receive regular email bulletins. Business Roundtable The Business Roundtable is an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. corporations. The Roundtable is committed to advocating public policies that ensure vigorous economic growth, a dynamic global economy, and the well-trained and productive U.S. workforce essential for future competitiveness. The Business Roundtable recognizes the importance of preschool and has called on business leaders to support these programs in their policy statement. Winning Beginning Winning Beginning is a statewide campaign underway in New York that is working to inform policy-makers and the public about the many benefits of early childhood education to children, families and society. The campaign's library of research notes the medium-term and cost-saving benefits of early childhood education.
