The School of Community Health and Medical Practices (CHAMPS) will provide a learning environment that integrates rigorous academics and hands-on, real world projects relating to personal fitness, health and medical sciences.
The school's four strategic goals are to:
- Improve academic achievement of all students, particularly in math and science.
- Prepare students to pursue advanced degrees in math and science.
- Promote good personal health and healthy life styles.
- Increase awareness of careers in health and medical sciences.
The school will also:
- Strive to maintain an environment of "student empowerment."
- Build upon students' natural interests in sports and medical careers.
- Integrate technology across the curriculum.
- Offer advanced courses in math and science.
- Use "real world" experiences to teach complex math and science concepts.
- Actively pursue grants to fund supplemental course offerings.
- Form an Advisory Board made up of representatives of key local health, medical and science research organizations.
