High School Renewal Freestanding Small Schools Freestanding Small Schools include new high schools under development through Proposition MM. The model is based on specific recommendations from the High Tech High (HTH) Learning Network and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Much of the planning required for opening the new schools is being done collaboratively with parents, community members and district staff. Each school will be fully autonomous, with its own space, budget, and principal, as well as its own rankings in the state's Academic Performance Index (API). The schools may exist on a multi-school campus or in a stand-alone building and may have charter status. Schools in this model include Lincoln High School, currently being rebuilt and expanded to open with two themed classroom complexes in September 2006. Two additional themed classroom complexes will open in September 2007. For more information, contact: Office of Secondary School Innovation (OSSI) >> High School Renewal |
