Hearst
Elementary is located in the Del Cerro area of San Diego, north
of San Diego State University. Our student population includes
neighborhood students, as well as those who participate in the
Voluntary
Ethnic Enrollment Program (VEEP) and
School Choice program. This
wonderful blend of students is reflective of our city’s diversity and
helps our students learn to respect others and work and play
harmoniously.
Hearst Elementary School is named in honor of Phoebe
Apperson Hearst (1842-1919). Phoebe Hearst was dedicated to education
for all and a generous philanthropist. In 1897, she co-founded the
National Congress of Mothers the forerunner of the Parent Teacher
Association (PTA). Today, the PTA is the largest volunteer child
advocacy organization in the United States.
Our goal is to ensure that every child receives a meaningful and strong
education. In keeping with Phoebe Hearst's vision, we are committed to
communicating with and engaging parents as partners in their children’s
education.
