  • No Place For Hate

Hancock Elementary will soon be designated a “No Place for Hate” school. Students and staff have been participating in several activities to promote positivity and mutual respect among all students. We kicked off the project with school-wide assemblies.  Classrooms are engaging in conversations and reading books regarding diversity and bullying. Students have been “caught” doing random acts of kindness toward each other. When “caught” students receive a ticket that goes in a designated container in the office. Once full, our Vice-Principal will be doing something special for all students. Students will also be creating a paper patch depicting their individual heritage. All patches at school will be combined to create a diversity quilt that will be displayed.

4th and 5th graders have a Mad Science Assembly Friday March 15th.  This assembly was donated by the American Chemical Society grant program.  They chose our school as a FREE assembly recipient.  The purpose is to encourage elementary school students to pursue careers in science and to demonstrate how much fun science can be.  The show they will be watching is called "Spin, Pop, Boom!"  During this interactive assembly, students will hear sound waves move through giant resonance tubes and demonstrate the forces that act on a roller coaster when it circles upside down.

The Digital Planetarium visited our school during the week of 2/22 - 3/1.  The traveling Digital Planetarium is courtesy of a generous donation to the children of San Diego County by John Witt.  Each classroom visited the domed experience.  While inside the dome, students were able to view the night sky as it appears each night.  They watched the moon rise, and the sun set.  We noted the appearance of planets in the night sky.  Constellations were identified. All students viewed an animated music video highlighting the history of space travel.   Third - Fifth grades also viewed an I-Max quality video, "Two Small Pieces of Glass,"  telling the story of the telescope.  During the night of our book fair, May 1st,  families were invited to share in this amazing experience, as well.

WORK

We are the heart of America! Our school is a very special place, located inside the active duty military housing complex of Murphy Canyon in the rolling hills and picturesque canyons of Tierrasanta.

We have an amazing diversity here of students who come to us from all across the United States and other nations as well. Our well-traveled students bring a wealth of experience and a great acceptance of others making our campus welcoming and wonderful.

Our mission is to nurture their academic achievement and establish high expectations. And our students rise to meet those expectations, again and again, with the guidance of our caring and experienced teachers and staff.
Our staff works closely with parents and the community to provide a positive and challenging learning environment where all children will be successful.
Watch our students sing at the Flag Assembly
