Pride in Excellence

Gifted & Talented Education

We offer both cluster and seminar classes in language arts and social studies/history at each grade level for students who are in need of,and qualify for, this qualitatively different program of study.  Students who were identified in elementary school are automatically scheduled into these classes.

English Language Development

All students who are identified as English learners will be assigned to a Language Arts Support class or Study Skills class as the elective choice.

Advanced Math Classes

We offer advanced mathematics classes at each grade level.  We use standardized test scores, report card grades, teacher/parent recommendations, and placement tests to determine enrollment in these classes.

Technology

We are wired for the Internet and have multiple opportunities for students to use technology in their schoolwork.  Besides the student computers that are located in every classroom, we have three state-of-art computer labs, class sets of laptop computers – with wireless internet capability, and interactive Promethean Boards and Netbooks in most classrooms.

Special Education

Students who are identified as needing special education services have their needs met in a variety of ways, in accordance with the modifications called out in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) under the guidance of a special academic instruction (SAI) case manager.

Advancement Via Individual Determination

AVID is designed for students who have the drive to go to college and are in need of additional support to help make it happen.  Students must be in the 7thor 8th grade, have a GPA above 2.0 and qualify for reduced or free meals.  AVID is for students who would be the first in their family to attend college.  There is an application process.
