    Hello Sandburg Families,

This is Principal Martin with our Sandburg Sunday Notes.

As we begin the second month of school, I would like to focus our attention to the culture of our school. Our API based on our STAR testing last year should be released from the state within a few weeks. My analysis of the data indicates that our API will be very close to our API last year. This is a reflection of hard work within our learning community which includes students, parents, teachers, support staff, PTA, Foundation, and Dads Club. Our life skills and lifelong guidelines play a critical role in the character education within our community.

I want to thank everyone for their daily efforts with our students. The culture of our school and the success of our students is a direct reflection of the commitment to high quality opportunities for our students. Keep up the great work.

Bingo Night was amazing we had over a hundred families participate and win some wonderful prizes.

Our Foundation will be distributing shopping card orders before and after school tomorrow, Monday, October 1 and Tuesday, October 2 in front of the multipurpose room. They will have a Limited number of Starbucks, Target, VONS, and El Torito cards.

Please know and follow the guidelines for drop off and pick up. The area in front of the school is for loading and unloading, 3 minutes, please stay with your car

Our PTA thanks you for the wonderful support of our annual fundraiser. Not all totals are in but preliminary estimates are that we are close to our annual goal. Delivery will be in October.

Please look for information coming home about our annual, fantastic, old tradition of the Fall Carnival and Silent Auction. We need volunteers and help; this is a great way to get involved.

Run club had a great first week. Exercise and physical activity have a positive impact on learning. Join us every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:25.

I would also like to advise all families to prepare your student for extremely high temperatures tomorrow. Please have your student come to school dressed in light, loose fitting clothing and use sunscreen. During hot weather, students need extra fluids and I encourage you to send extra water with them to school and make sure they consume at least 6-8 glasses of water or cool liquid throughout the day. Our school will limit outdoor activities and will do everything possible to create a comfortable learning environment for students throughout the day.

    Hello Sandburg Families,

This is Principal Martin with our Sandburg Sunday Notes.

Our Back-to-School Night was wonderful. I would like to thank our teachers, staff, PTA, Foundation, Dads Club, volunteers and all the families that came out to make it such a special event.

At Sandburg we believe in exercising the mind and body. A healthy mind goes hand in hand with a healthy body. Running Club will begin Monday September 24 2012. Everyday students should be wearing shoes that allow for exercise at recess, lunch and PE.

Our “Blue Dog”fundraiser is off and running. Tuesday and Thursday students can turn in blue dog coupons, check your packet for other important dates.

Coffee with the Principal is tomorrow morning directly after our morning assembly. The purpose of this first coffee is to give families more information about our Sandburg community, parent groups, volunteering, and provide a time to ask questions. Everyone is welcome.

Wednesday is our first take a Tiger to Dinner. It is at Chilis Mira Mesa from noon to 10:00 pm. Sandburg receives 15% of your purchases. Look for the flyer. Use a shopping card and Sandburg receives an additional 11%.

When you arrive to school before 7:40, please wait in the morning assembly area until the bell rings, this our supervised area.

Make sure your students dress for an active lifestyle, with athletic shoes and clothing that will allow for comfort and exercise.

    Hello Sandburg Families,

This is Principal Martin with our Sandburg Sunday Notes.

A HUGE THANK YOU to the more than fifty parents, students, staff members and volunteers came out for our Campus Beautification Day on Saturday. It was amazing to see the effort put out by everyone on a very warm day. Our school looks amazing. Thank you.

Community Service is important for many reasons. Taking part and volunteering teaches compassion and understanding. This is a mind set and skill our children will need. As parents we set the example through our actions. One of my goals for this year is to increase the opportunities for all parents to volunteer and help at Sandburg. Sandburg is a great school with more participation it can become an amazing school. This will benefit our students.

Our office opens this week for kindergarten and new student registration. Our hours are 7:00 to 3:00.
