Tutoring

Students at Montgomery can take advantage of a variety of programs for academic support.  All these services are free!

  • PRYDE (from Mission Valley YMCA) – Instill in students a positive sense of self esteem and provide them with guidance and support needed to develop positive decision making. Also offer homework assistance and academic enrichment. Pick up applications in the office.
  • Prime Time (from Mission Valley YMCA) – A before and after school program which offers extra curricular activities including homework support time, sports, art, music, etc. Applications are located in the office.
  • After School Homework Club (with USD tutors) – Tutors provide one-on-one help with homework and tips for school success. Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in room 110; applications in the main office.
  • Jamestown Navigator and Bridge to Algebra – online courses offered during the day to selected 7th & 8th grade students who qualify for acceleration in Reading/Writing and Math.
  • ACHIEVE course – a 6-week class tailored to get selected 8th graders back on the path of academic success. The curriculum includes one on one tutoring, organizational skills building, resiliency, and study skills strengthening.
  • Achieve Tutoring Program – offered as a community service project by the Chinese Evangelical Church, in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Tutoring in math, science, English, history and even adult English classes.  Pamphlets are available in the main office.
  • Live Homework Help – using a public library card number, students can long on to San Diego Public Library, then Live Homework Help.
  • Extra tutoring from Montgomery teachers – most teachers offer help before or after school by appointment.  Students must make arrangements to stay with their teachers and inform parents.  See schedule.
  • University student tutors in classrooms – these tutors assist classroom teachers in tutoring and mentoring small groups during class, as well as providing a great example as role models.
  • SES (Supplemental Educational Services) –  Applications were mailed  home in order for students to receive extra tutoring after school or during the weekend. Tutoring done by private tutoring companies.
  • ELDP (Extended Day Learning Program) –  Reading and Math support from Montgomery teachers.
