"I Can Afford College": This spring, the California Community Colleges' "I Can Afford College" financial aid awareness campaign is launching a new contest, in partnership with Clear Channel Communications: the "$5,000 Free Money for Community College" sweepstakes. One lucky winner will receive $5,000 that can be used for community college costs, such as fees, books, supplies and other college-related expenses. The second prize is a customized, college-loaded iPad. To enter, go to www.icanaffordcollege.com by June 23, 2013, and submit 50 words or less about how much brighter their future would look if they won the $5,000 Free Money for Community College sweepstakes. Cal-SOAP: Ms. Caleigh Cornell, College Peer Advisor, is on site Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the computer lab room 301. Ms. Cornell may provide assistance to students in transition from high school to college by motivating students to pursue higher education and provides assistance with college and financial aid applications as well as college preparation. Students may login using his or her StudentConnect password at https://my.sandi.net Join Circle of Friends: Make a difference in someone's life and build a powerful friendship. Circle of Friends is an inclusion program for all students with disabilities, brings the understanding and acceptance of differences on school campuses and within the community, decreasing bullying and making a significant social impact. Circle of Friends meets Wednesdays or Thursdays during lunch in the cafeteria. Pick-up an application at the speech office right across the cafeteria. Tutors Needed: Tutors needed for the Linda Vista Homework Helpers. Sign up with VolunteerMatch, go to http://www.volunteermatch.org and search "Homework Help Tutor" for details...or stop by the Linda Vista Library next Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM - 2160 Ulric Street, San Diego, CA 92111 (858) 573-1399. Start accummulating your volunteer hours! Hall Locker: Hall lockers are available now for CTA students in good standing! Stop by to see Mrs. Flores for availability. If you are using a locker and it has NOT been assigned to you, you must remove the lock immediately. Lockers that have NOT been assigned will have locks removed. Counseling Corner: The Counseling Corner web page has been updated with a lot of useful information from San Diego CalSOAP link to FAFSA link. Click here to visit the Counseling Corner. Outside Food & Drinks: There is NO OUTSIDE FOOD and DRINKS allowed on campus. For example: cake, cupcakes, cookies to celebrate birthdays or Starbucks coffee, etc. Outside food and drinks will be confiscated and kept in the office until after school. Computer Lab 301: The computer lab room 301 is open every morning for students. They must sign-in in room 301 for computer or space use. This will not clear any ATS hours. Students may clear ATS hours by reporting to room 302 with Mrs. Schu. Thank you! Late Activity Bus Pass Policy and Schedule: Students who ride the 4:30 PM bust must have a standard pass signed by school personnel. These passes are given out only to students who are on campus in tutoring, sports (participating, not observing) or in a club until 4:20 PM. The 5:30 PM bus is for CURRENT athletes. Our campus security personnel will no longer honor passes from students who remain for tutoring or other activities unless previous arrangements have been made through an administrator and our security assistants. 4:30 PM: Route A1 Route B1 Ibarra Elem.
