All eighth grade students are required to meet the following district and school expectations:
v District Promotion Policy: Students, at the end of the school year, who have 2 or more Fs in any of the core subjects (English, Mathematics, History and Science), are required to attend summer school for targeted intervention. Please note that students who do not attend summer school will be retained in 8th grade unless they are exempted by 2010 CST scores of Basic or above in English Language Arts and Mathematics. At the end of summer school, only those students with Fs remaining in both ELA and mathematics, and who score Below Basic or Far Below Basic on the CST in English Language Arts and Mathematics will be retained in the eighth grade.
v Wilson Middle School’s Promotion Ceremony Participation Guideline: Eighth grade students will be invited to participate in the end of the year events and promotion ceremony if they meet the following:
1. Return all required school materials (textbooks, library books, music equipments, books, fundraiser money or materials, and any other school materials)
2. Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA (for academic and citizenship)
3. Has no failing grade in any class (including electives and Physical education)
4. Has no suspension or expulsion referrals for the last two months of school
5. Meet the school’s binder organization expectation, and maintain up to date assignment logs.
