The future depends on it!

Research shows that when parents, families and the community get actively involved with a child's education, there is a direct and measurable impact. Their grades are higher, their self-esteem is greater, and they are more socially adjusted. In fact, the most accurate indicator of a student's academic success in school is not tied to family income or social status, but the extent to which a family:

• Creates a home environment that encourages learning.
• Sets high but realistic achievement and career expectations
• Becomes involved in their child's education and in the community.
  

In addition to attending special events such as theatrical and musical performances and sports events, there are many opportunities to get involved at your child’s school. A few examples include:

• Tutoring
• Mentoring
• Classroom assistance
• Pitching in outside the classroom (such as field trips, library media center, etc.)
• Organization involvement (such as PTA, foundation, School Site Council, etc.)
• Booster programs for sports, band, theater, chorale and orchestra
• Career days
