Section A: Updated Student Community Profile 2009-2010
San Diego City Schools (SDCS) serves approximately 136,000 students in an area that covers more than 200 square miles. The district is the 8th largest urban school district in the United States and the 2nd largest in California. The district employs more than 15,800 people in 202 educational facilities, 30 of which serve high school students. Certificated staff number 9,044, and classified staff number 6,706.
San Diego City Schools is made up of a diverse socioeconomic and ethnic student body. Almost 53 percent of students are eligible for free and reduced meals. Twenty-eight percent of students are English learners. More than 60 languages other than English are spoken by students in the district.
 
Samuel F. B. Morse High School
Samuel F. B. Morse High School serves over 2,200 students, grades nine through twelve, in the Skyline-Paradise Hills area of San Diego. The community is culturally diverse and composed mainly of single family dwellings. Morse High School receives students from the surrounding community. Students matriculate from three feeder schools that serve the Skyline-Paradise Hills community: Bell Junior High School, Keiller Middle School, and O’Farrell Charter School. Over the last six years enrollment at Morse has decreased significantly. The largest number of students, 3,090, enrolled in 2002-03. Over the following seven years enrollment dropped to 2,206 for the 2009-2010 school year.
