Clairemont High School Tardy Policy
First Ten Minutes
Teachers are asked to take attendance within the first 10 minutes of class. During 1st period, a student who arrives to school after 7:30 must first check-in and obtain a pass from the attendance office. Throughout the day, students who arrive to class late will only be excused if they arrive to class with a pass. Staff may, at any time, send a tardy student to the attendance office if a question arises about the nature of the tardy. Attendance staff will determine if an excessive tardy should be changed to a Truancy. In addition, the attendance staff will work closely with CHS Administration regarding students with habitual attendance problems. Teachers are always responsible for noting student attendance and tardies in PowerSchool.
From time to time, students will arrive to class with an official pass signed by a CHS staff member after roll is taken. In this instance teachers are asked to update attendance marks in PowerSchool when they take roll for the following period and/or attach the pass to the sign-in sheet so that it too can be picked-up, monitored, and attendance corrected.
Tardy Sweep should be considered an additional consequence to the ones listed on the chart below. On tardy sweep days, security and administration will sweep students into the cafeteria to be given school detention/campus beautification. Teachers will not admit students unless they have a pass that indicates they received their school detention slip. Teachers will still mark student tardy and follow consequence chart.
Consequences for tardies for each six-week grading period
Loss of Privileges ListWhen a student is placed on this list, they are restricted from participating in specified extra-curricular activities until they serve Saturday School. That list includes, but is not limited to:
• Field Trips
• Cheerleading performances
• Drama performances
• Dance team performances
• Special Activities (ex: pep rallies, assemblies)
*Student tardy counts and consequences are reset at the beginning of each grading period. However, an administrative conference will be held with parents and their students that have been habitually late.
