MusicAll in-coming 6th grade students of woodwinds, brass, and percussion will be eligible. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring confidence in sight-reading, and new skills with other instruments of the major families of winds, leading to the production of a well-balanced wind and percussion ensemble. Intermediate Band 7th and 8th This course is available to those seventh & eighth grade students who have completed at least one- year of instrumental music instruction at the elementary or private level, or whose performance experience may be otherwise limited. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring confidence in sight- reading, and new skills with other instruments of the major families of winds, leading to the production of a well-balanced wind and percussion ensemble. Advanced/Marching Band This course is available to selected students with at least two or more years of experience with a musical instrument. Major emphasis will be placed Intermediate Orchestra Intermediate orchestra is available to students with at least one or more year's experience with a string instrument. Major emphasis will be placed on acquiring new skills with other members of the violin family, including viola, 'cello, and bass, sight-reading and frequent performances. The orchestra will at times be augmented by a compliment of selected wind and percussion students to provide the full orchestral experience whenever possible. Jazz Band Jazz band is available as a supplemental course to selected students concurrently enrolled in band or orchestra classes, and includes the standard "Big Band" instrumentation of 4 trumpets, 5 saxes, 4 trombone, 4 rhythm (guitar, bass, drums, piano). This elite ensemble is a laboratory for the study and performance of swing, rock, fusion, and Latin styles. Improvisation and frequent performances at high profile venues are hallmark of this award-winning group. |
