AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determiniation
Middle Level AVID
Those considered for AVID are bright students who may be underachieving, underserved in the college system, or the first in their family to attend college. The AVID class, held within the regular school day, provides support, academic monitoring, and tutoring. The writing process, Socratic questioning, collaborative learning, and reading are the core strategies of the program. Special activities and academic supports include a rigorous pre-collegiate curriculum, college and other academically enriching field trips, as well as access to tutors and Junior Achievement programs.
Course Prerequisite/Criteria
Students should have at least a C+ in mathematics, no “F” academic grades, and a minimum 2.5 citizenship Grade Point Average. Students must complete the interview/application process with the AVID coordinator.
