Middle School

AVID's Mission-
AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by
preparing all students for college readiness and
success in a global society.
AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.
6th grade AVID is offered to  ALL STUDENTS because  we mainly focus on organization strategies both academic and behavioral that allow the student's first experience in a middle school setting to be an easy transition from elementary.  We focuses more on organizational and collaborative skills to help the student adjust to the bigger class sizes, class transition, and academic rigor and expectations of each class syllabus.  In 6th grade AVID, all students are encouraged to communicate with each teacher and  attend tutoring for academic or communication purposes to ensure success in each classroom. Furthermore, after taking a semester course in 6th grade AVID, students feel more organized and more confident which will allow for more success and higher determination throughout their educational career.
6th Grade Testimonials:
"AVID helps me to be organized and get better grades"-
"It has prepared me to be more organized!"
"Now I have an organized binder!!"
"My organizational skills have improved"
"AVID has changed my attitude for the greater good!
Although AVID serves ALL students, the AVID elective in 7th and 8th grade focuses on the least served students in the academic middle.  The formula is simple - raise expectations of students and, with the AVID support system in place, they will rise to the challenge. What distinguishes AVID from other educational reform programs is its continuous success rate. Of the 33,204 AVID seniors in 2012 who reported their demographics, academic achievement data and future plans, just over 98 percent indicated they would be graduating from high school, with 90 percent planning to attend a postsecondary institution: 58 percent to a four-year college and 32 percent to a two-year institution. Seventy-three percent reported taking at least one rigorous course, such as AP®, IB® or Cambridge®, with 61 percent taking the corresponding exam.
