The mission of Hoover High School’s comprehensive school guidance program is to provide a comprehensive, preventative and developmental counseling program that promotes academic, career and persona/social achievement for all students. School counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience in order for students to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow.



The counselors at Hoover High School believe:

  • All students have the opportunity, access, and ability to achieve
  • All students have a right to a safe and supportive learning environment
  • All students have the right to be treated with dignity and respect
  • All students have a right to a quality and rigorous education

And that the Hoover High School comprehensive school counseling program should:

  • Reach every student
  • Be comprehensive in scope, preventative in design, and developmental in nature
  • Be conducted in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Select measurable student competencies based on local need in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social domains
  • Be culturally responsive to the community it serves

And that all counselors in Hoover High School:

  • Cultivate lifelong learners and believe in educational reform to support all students, regardless of race or ethnicity
  • Are active participants in leadership committees and play a pivotal role in school reform
  • Abide by the professional school counseling ethics as advocated by the American School Counselor Association
  • Participate in professional development activities essential to maintaining a quality school counseling program
