This resource provides comprehensive information on courses, programs, graduation requirements and planning for the ultimate high school experience.

Our school provides all the resources and history of the San Diego Unified School District and its mission:  All San Diego students will graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to succeed in their choice of college and career in order to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow.

University City High School refines the district mission to provide a focus for our students’ work through their four year experience on the campus. The mission of University City High School is:

To educate students to become productive and responsible citizens, who realize their full potential through life long learning.

With the goal of accomplishing our mission in the lives of every student who graduates from University City High the staff and community expect all students, as a requirement for their graduation to be able to demonstrate their ability to:

  •  Be active contributors to their community who give of their time, talents and energy to benefit others.

  • Be collaborative citizens who work well with people of different backgrounds and opinions,

  • Be effective and knowledgeable communicators, who are able to listen, read, write, think clearly, and respond appropriately to written materials and spoken language,

  • Be independent, critical thinkers and decision makers who can discern and creatively solve problems using prior knowledge and research skills,

  • Be skilled practitioners who have a working knowledge of current technology and its application for personal and workplace purposes, and

  •  Be responsible planners who know how to set long-term learning and career goals.

In order to adequately prepare our students for their post high school experience, all UC students are enrolled in and are expected to complete a course of study that fulfills college-readiness prerequisites of the University of California/California State University “a-g” course requirements. Students need to be prepared to enter an ever-changing world in which college and career choices and opportunities will continually evolve.

The research done on student achievement indicates that careful selection of a course of study combined with participation in clubs, athletics, and/or other extra-curricular activities provides students with a balanced and productive high school experience.

Course selections should be made carefully and I encourage you to seek the guidance of your parents and your counselor. Each careful selection that you make should lead you closer to the attainment of your goals and should provide you with the foundation for future decisions about college, career and life. Our counseling staff is available to offer suggestions and to assist you to select the courses that meet the requirements for high school graduation as well as prepare you for your post high school world.

University City High School has an outstanding staff, an exceptional student body, a supportive parent community, a tradition of academic and extra-curricular excellence and a clean, well-maintained campus environment.

These features, combined with the quantity and quality of our course offerings, create an outstanding opportunity for a memorable and productive high school experience.

I encourage you to plan well, choose well, be involved and strive for excellence in all that you attempt during high school.
