English/Language Arts follows the SDUSD "Units of Inquiry" curriculum and includes instruction in reading comprehension, writing strategies, conventions and applications, vocabulary development, listening and speaking skills and critical thinking.
SDUSD's "Units of Inquiry" focus on five areas of study: 1. informational text 2. expository text 3. persuasive test 4. narrative text 5. functional and public documents
These units include: functional reading and writing, research reports and projects, nonfiction, short stories, novels, poetry, drama and responsive and creative writing. In addition, speaking, listening and higher order thinking skills are also taught.
