In order to ensure that all of Marston’s students have access to the levels of support needed to become proficient in English, Math, Science, and History, we have implemented an Advisory Program to provide INTERVENTION and EXPLORATION within the school day.
Ø Learning Targets will be published for each core class.
Ø Students know what is expected and what will be assessed.
Ø Assessment will show mastery or the need for INTERVENTION (more time and support).
Ø Students control their participation in EXPLORATION activities based on completion of assignments and mastery of the Learning Targets.
INTERVENTION & EXPLORATION
In every core subject area, at each grade level, we have identified LEARNING TARGETS that will be taught in three week cycles throughout the school year.
The LEARNING TARGETS will be published throughout the year for students and parents. At the end of each three week cycle, a COMMON ASSESSMENT that is specific to those LEARNING TARGETS will be given to the students.
Students who have demonstrated mastery of the LEARNING TARGETS on the COMMON ASSESSMENT will be assigned to an EXPLORATION session during the Advisory Period for the following three week cycle.
Students who did not demonstrate mastery of the LEARNING TARGETS on the COMMON ASSESSMENT will be assigned to an INTERVENTION session for the core subject area of greatest need during the Advisory Period for the next three weeks.
Students who demonstrated mastery of the LEARNING TARGETS on the COMMON ASSESSMENT but did not complete or turn in class or homework assignments for the preceding three week cycle will be assigned to a STUDY HALL class during the Advisory Period for the next three week cycle.
Every three weeks, students have the chance to “catch up,” or have fun in a different sort of learning experience.
