Our Principal: Nestor Suarez
Nestor Suarez is the Principal of Cabrillo Elementary. He is responsible for the implementation of the district’s Educational Curriculum Objectives, Student Achievement, school / home parent involvement, teacher Professional Development, student safety, and community partnership involvement. He has served as Cabrillo’s principal for the past three years.
Nestor has worked in bringing special grants that provide quality Theater and Dance instruction and Math and Science instruction. He is a Committee member to Public Relations Committee for the San Diego Administrators Association and a member of the District’s Response to Interventions Task Force looking at intervention models.
Nestor was born in Puerto Rico and Raised in New York City. He is a former Marine and served in Viet Nam. Nestor did his undergraduate work on the East Coast, where he graduated with BA in Education/Theater and Dance from South Eastern Massachusetts University. He received his Masters of Arts degree in School Administration from Point Loma University in San Diego.
He has been married twenty three years to Susan, his wife, who is COO / Director of Education for Fashion Careers College. His daughter Francesca is a sophomore attending San Diego High School of International Studies. His son Nestor attends Longfellow Spanish Immersion Magnet school. Nestor serves as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout troop 53 in San Diego.
Nestor likes to read motivational literature, running and long distance biking. He
believes that parents and staff and students are the most important stakeholders in the educational system and has created the environment in which these elements have fostered.
