Mrs. Gomez, Principal

Dear Ericson Families,

Welcome back to a brand new school year.  I am very delighted to continue the dynamic home/school connection that we have gotten underway.  Your active support and cooperation, combined with our best professional efforts, will ensure continued academic success for every child at Ericson.  I wanted to takea moment to highlight and thank our parent/student groups which volunteer tohelp raise funds for our school. You can find a breakdown of wonderful partners listed below.  I have also included a yearly calendar of planned fundraisers for the year so that you may plan ahead. We welcome all support and are always looking for additional volunteers.  Please feel free to contact our office or any of the parent groups with any questions.

Our goal continues to be to help students achieve more as they become readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists and life long learners. We will also be working to prepare ourselves for the upcoming Common Core standards. We are proud to report that we are still above the district expectation with our state-wide test scores in EnglishLanguage Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. We also continue to excel with our 5thgrade science scores.

Moving on to additional greatnews! It gives me pleasure to welcome the following certificated and office staff members to Ericson:

  • Joretta Haggins, Music Prep Time Teacher
  • Dyelene Deove-Brown, School Clerk

As they settle in and get toknow our students, I am sure they will share our enthusiasm of working at such a wonderful school.

As we launch our new schoolyear, it is important to note that every elementary school in our district must abide by a formula that controls the number of teachers assigned to aschool.  If enrollment is up or down, we could either gain or lose a teacher.  Any change in the total number of teachers assigned means a reorganization of existing classes.  Please bear with us as we undergo an anticipated enrollment fluctuation.   Our staff has worked hard carefully placing students into classrooms in accordance to laws and equity with class sizes.  However, it is important to state that all present student class assignments are temporary and subject to change. Until we are locked into our final enrollment of students and allocation of teachers, no changes in class assignments, if any, will be made during the first thirty days of school.

I would like to remind all our families that as you establish your routes to school, I urge you to use allavailable sidewalks and crosswalks and remember that parking lots are for staffonly and locked from 7:30-8:00 am for the safety of our students.

Looking forward to a wonderful year.

Respectfully,

Maria Gomez, Principal
