Thank you for visiting our class. We are studying a variety of things in the different discipline areas. In the reading/ language arts we are focusing on the theme in different pieces of fiction and nonfiction. Theme is the "life lesson" learned from the piece of reading we have read and how we can relate it to life and through other pieces of literature. In word study, we have looked at synonyms (words that mean the same or about the same), antonyms (words that are opposite in meaning), homophones (words that sound the same, but are spelled differently and have different meanings), and syllabication (breaking words into "sound" parts). In mathematics, we are working on fractions. What a numerator and denominator are? How to add and subtract fractions as well as simplifying these sums and differences. We are working in writing on paragraphs. How to write a topic sentence and follow it with supporting detail sentences and then close with a concluding sentence. In science, our focus is physical science. It is the study of light, sound, and motion. We will be looking at how these forces of nature effect the world and or lives. California's regions and physical geography are the focus of our studies in social studies. As you can see, we are very busy and hope this review of our present studies will help you at home with helping us here at school.
