Meet Principal Lillie McMillan
Welcome to a true community school where parents and volunteers do all they can to make the academic experience the best for our students. At Porter, we have so many special programs like our Drum Corps where students are trained on drums and get to march in parades representing our school. We also learn to debate from the experts here, with more than two dozen judges and attorneys who are regular volunteers here and lead our students in mock trials. These are just two of the many programs that energize and educate our students and school community.
I am proud to serve as the educational leader to such a dynamic campus. When I was growing up on the East Coast in a small town in North Carolina, community involvement in school was a way of life. I am happy to see that tradition remains alive here at Porter. Research shows that the more the community and parents get involved in schools, the higher the students achieve. Plus, it's just a wonderful way to show children that you believe in them!
Education has always been my destiny, and it became clear to everyone -- even me -- when by the age of 12 I was leading the adult Sunday school classes in my church. I earned my bachelor's degree from Fayetville State University, and my advanced educational degrees and training from Chapman University.
We hope to see all parents sometime this school year at our regular Family Fridays, or at our Mother's Day Breakfast or our Father/Daughter Dance. Our Parent-Teacher Organization has so much planned for our school year. It's going to be a great year at Porter!
