Overview

Built in 1960, K-6 Sequoia Elementary is an attractive school located in Clairemont. We embrace all cultures and are proud of our student diversity. Sequoia enjoys a high student attendance rate of 96.8 percent and wonderful parent/family support throughout the year.
We focus on standards-based instruction, with an emphasis on literacy and math. We hold high expectations for all students. Students need to be at school, do their best work and respect others. We consider the partnership between home and school vital for student success.
We continually enhance parent involvement through participation in PTA, special activities/workshops, site-based committee membership and classroom volunteering. At our Parent Library Night, families read new books and make personalized nameplates for the jacket to commemorate the first read before each book is placed in the library stacks.
Local business partnerships enrich Sequoia’s student activities. Partners include Walmart, IHOP, City of San Diego Metropolitan Waste Water Department, S. W. Hackett Masonic Lodge, Boys and Girls Club of Clairemont, Junior Achievement and Burger King. We conduct Student Awards Assemblies throughout the year for academics and citizenship. All students perform at these assemblies in our outstanding choral music program. Monday patriotic flag ceremonies, followed by Family Monday Mornings, include school-wide singing, as well as solo performances. Participation in Student Council, Variety Show, walk/jog-a-thon fundraiser, PTA
Carnival and other activities make Sequoia a productive and enjoyable place to be. Come visit us!
