From Our Principal...Maria Montgomery
As the new principal of Kumeyaay Elementary, I feel fortunate to join such a positive environment where there is already a strong home-family-school connection. We have exceptional teachers on staff at Kumeyaay who are committed to developing a positive, engaging, rigorous and successful environment for your child at school. Together, we can work collaboratively to support the socio-emotional well being of our students and to strive for academic excellence.
My educational career began in the elementary school setting where I held a variety of teaching positions, in grades K-9, followed by resource teacher and staff development positions within the district. I have also held a position at the district level as a Program Manager in the literacy department with a focus on English Language Learners. Just before I came to Kumeyaay, I served the Tierrasanta community as a Vice Principal at de Portola Middle School. Through my middle school experience I have a clear understanding of the knowledge, skills and habits that our elementary students need as they transition into the middle school years. As a result of these varied experiences, I have a K-12 commitment to educating the students in our district schools and believe in Serra Cluster’s dedication to all of our students.
Please know that you are always welcome on campus and that I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and your students in the year to come. We are going to have a great year together!
