Classof2011

Information for Prospective Full-time iHigh Students

Full-time students at iHigh Virtual Academy do the majority of their coursework at home, using a rigorous online curriculum. Six credentialed teachers are on campus from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., to provide in-person academic support and assistance. Certain courses require face-to-face attendance, usually for 2-hour blocks either once or twice per week. These include science courses (biology, chemistry, physics, earth science) and selected electives (journalism, theatre arts, PE). Videoconferencing is also used to facilitate class meetings for certain subjects.

Students applying to iHigh should be self-directed, self-motivated and able to efficiently manage their time. They should be reading at grade level and should be proficient in using a computer.

The iHigh program is popular with students who desire a flexible school schedule. This includes students who are employed, students with special medical needs, students who are experiencing social challenges at their current schools, and students who wish to accelerate their graduation. Social activities and community service projects are provided to ensure that students develop positive peer interactions and leadership skills.
