If you need a Keurig, French Press or Drip, you can order those even though they are not on the order form. Just notate the kind you want next to your name. While the fundraiser goes year round, orders must be turned in by Monday Dec. 10 to receive coffee before winter break. Please place order forms and money into an envelope with your child's name and put it in the black mailbox in room 505.
We are working on setting up an online account so that future orders can be made directly via the internet. But for now, we need the old paper method.
Welcome to the new school year! There are a lot of exciting things happening that are far too involved to write down here. If you were at the parent meeting and back to school night, then you are in the know! Be on the lookout for more info about how to help out in the next few weeks. Also, the website calendar will be slowly updated over the next couple weeks, but the fall concerts are already on there, so go check out the end of November on the calendar.

!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Important String Orchestra - !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our concert this Saturday (Dec. 10) with Pershing and Patrick Henry has been canceled due to a couple different factors beyond my control. We are going to try to put together a new event to combine with Pershing and PHHS to make up for canceling this one. Again, there is no concert this Saturday.

Congratulations to all of our students for their performances last week at the Fall Concert. What a great start to the school year! Keep checking back for new updates to our website. I'm not being very fast about it, but I'm slowly learning how to get a lot of information posted. The Jazz Band page is new, and there will soon be a page specific to each performing group. I'm also working on a photo gallery of our events. Let's start with this year. Send me your photo's from the Fall Concert and Middle School Band Night at Patrick Henry. After some organization and checking of media release forms, I'll get them up.
Things coming up... Honor Band and Orchestra auditions. Info will go home next week. 7/8th graders can apply for the Middle School Honor groups only. 6th graders may apply for both the Middle School or Elementary School Honor groups (however, they can only perform in one if chosen for both). This is because Middle School covers 6-8th grades and the Elementary School covers 5-6th grades. Bonus for the middle school groups is that the rehearsals are going to be at Lewis this year. (I also happen to be the manager of the middle school orchestra this year)
6th graders: We have some computers that are being set up for us to use a software program called SmartMusic. I hope to be demonstrating how it works before winter break so that we can start using it in January.

Congratulations to all ensembles for their awesome performances during our Fall Concerts!
As our 2 week winter break approaches, let me leave you with a couple thoughts:
1. Look at the calendar. It is getting updated as dates for spring events get solidified. Check back often.
2. Does your instrument need a bit of repair? 2 weeks of no rehearsal is a great time for your instrument to go into the shop.
3. Tuners and Metronomes make great Holiday gifts. Some companies like Korg have tuners with a metronome included.
4. Mr. Prout has Honor Band and Orchestra audition music. Lets have a strong showing from our school.
5.We are hosting a CMEA festival on April 29-30, 2011. This is a bigfundraiser for us and we need lots of parent volunteers. Look for moreinfo in Janurary.

Asthis school year comes to a close, I"m spending a lot of the daysreflecting on the year. We always aim high, and it’s rewarding to lookback at so many great things that were accomplished since lastSeptember.
To all the students leaving us for high school, thank you for a wonderful year, you will be greatly missed.
To the returning 7th and 8th graders, enjoy your summer, there are great things being planned for you next year.
May I extend an early welcome to our incoming 6th grade students and their families, I can"t wait to meet you in September!
As for me, I"m off to go load more music onto that cool iPod that somehow found its way into my undeserving hands.... Thank you!
