Holmes PTA Offers Many Great After School Programs

Based on parent and student interest, the Holmes PTA has has arranged for many approved Programs designed to enrich our students educational experience.  For further questions about activities offered, please contact the Program itself since the school does not actually run these activities. Please turn in all registration and payments to the activity directors themselves, and not to the School Office. 
 
Holmes PTA will only be collecting Mileage Club and Junior Theatre registration forms throughout the school year (please drop them off at the Office). 
 
 
 

Cheer4Fun 

Tuesdays from 3:35-4:35 p.m., 9 Weeks for $112.50, Grades K-6  


Come enjoy the sport of cheerleading in a non-competitive environment for a fraction of the cost and time commitment of other cheering programs.  Our recreational cheer program teaches all of the fundamentals of cheerleading.  Learn cheers, motions, dance, jumps, kicks, voice projection and beginning tumbling.  Students will also have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a performance! Cheerleading is a great sport that improves muscular strength, flexibility and coordination while having FUN. Heartlight Aerobics

Fridays from 3:35-4:30 p.m., 6 Weeks for $40, Grades K-5

Learn jazz, hip hop and aerobic dance steps as you follow your teacher dancing to choreographed routines.  Learn fun dances to:  Superstar (Big Time Rush), Leave It All To Me (Miranda Cosgrove), Loud (R5), Shake It Up (Selena Gomez), Shine Your Way (Owl City & Yuna), Contagious Love (Bella & Zendaya) and a lot more fun songs!  Heartlight students will get the chance to perform at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar.  For more information on Heartlight Aerobics, visit their web site at www.HeartlightSanDiego.com. Lego Engineering with EAFT 

Wednesdays from 1:15-2:25 p.m., 6 Weeks for $81, Grades 2-5

Do you love building things, playing with Legos or computers? Then this class is for you. Use critical thinking skills to build theme-based ROBOTS using LEGOs! Program models to come alive using technology.  Learn about simple machines and mechanisms such as gears, pulleys, levers and much more!  Team up with a friend and put your Science, Technology, Engineering & Math skills to work!  For more information and to register, download the EAFT Registration Form. Mad Science

Wednesdays from 1:20-2:20 p.m., 6 Weeks for $69.95, Grades K-6

The hands-on, one-hour science programs are thematically based upon a particular area of science and include such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers and even the science of toys. Children engage in exciting hands-on activities, watch spectacular demonstrations and participate in inquiry-based discussions. Children take home exciting projects that they make themselves like model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty and more. Mileage Club 

Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:40-8:55 a.m., FREE (Funded by Holmes PTA), Grades 1-6

(Kindergarteners can participate if they have a parent or guardian to walk them to their Kindergarten class after Mileage Club)
Students, parents and teachers are welcome to join the Mileage Club twice a week in the dirt lot behind the school. This club starts on October 4th and runs until May 2013. Piano Keyboard Club by Musical Minds 

Mondays from 3:35 - 4:35 p.m., 86 Weeks for $120, Grades 1-6

Kids learn to play their favorite tunes on electric piano keyboards. They can choose the music they want to learn! The club is a combination of keyboard piano lessons and a music learning workshop, which uses a clever visual method to teach the basics of music reading and piano playing. We have developed lots of learning games and activities designed to instruct students in the fundamentals of music theory, in ways that are fun, engaging, and stimulating.
 
We want our students to stay motivated and continue to want to learn to play music, whether they like Michael Jackson or Taylor Swift, the Black Eyes Peas, Selena Gomez, Adele, Katy Perry or Beethoven. San Diego Junior Theatre 

Wednesdays 1:20-2:50 p.m., 8 Weeks for $76, Grades 1-6

The same instructors that run the Junior Theatre at Balboa Park come to Holmes Elementary for half the price! These classes are divided up by grade level and all classes teach theatre skills (voice, movement, communication, imagination, improvisation) with the experience of rehearsing and performing on stage. Family and friends will be able to attend a short performance on the final day of instruction. Soccer by Tiny Pros

Mondays from 3:35 - 4:20 p.m., 6 weeks for $65, Grades K-2

 
The Tiny Pros Soccer Program is designed and approved by kinesiology professionals and child psychologists.  Improve your child's concentration, listening skills, and ability to follow direction.  We use fun games and engaging exercises such as "dragons", "snowflakes" and "pick up your room" to teach children the basic elements of soccer.  The real goal is to instill our players with a sense of confidence, coordination, friendship, and a sense of belonging to a group while keeping them fit and healthy. Tennis – offered by Youth Tennis San Diego

Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m., 6 Weeks for $30, Grades 1-6

Come learn the basics of tennis. This is a fun exercise class that will get your heart pumping and your arms swinging.
