Holmes Elementary School

Stay Informed, Be Involved

Below are some ways you can stay up-to-date about what’s going on around campus.

Hawkeye Folders

Every day students bring home a “Hawkeye” folder that contains school announcements and classroom assignments.  The majority of the school announcement flyers are sent home on Thursdays.  While the folders have important information, to stay informed in a more timely way, you should check the Headlines on the Holmes Elementary website, the Holmes PTA website, and sign-up for eBlast.

Bulletin Boards

If you do not have Internet access, you can get information on either of the two bulletin boards at Holmes Elementary.  One is located in the kindergarten area by room K-3 and the other is by the adult restrooms.  The bulletin boards include a monthly calendar, important announcements and a list of current activities at Holmes.

Monthly School Calendar

The monthly calendar includes important holiday dates, events, before/after school activities, fundraisers and meetings.  You can find the calendar on the Holmes Elementary website, or hard copies are posted on the two campus bulletin boards (see above).

eBlast

eBlast is a great way to receive current and timely information. To sign-up for this weekly email service please visit our eBlast page.  eBlast is paid for and maintained by the PTA – all email addresses and personal information are kept confidential and secure, and will not be sold or distributed to anyone.  All eBlasts are archived and can be viewed at any time.

Forms

Due to budget cuts, there will only be a limited supply of forms available in the front office.  Please check the website for downloadable versions or email holmespta@yahoo.com if you need assistance.

Hawkeye Newsletter

The “Hawkeye” is a bi-monthly newsletter written and printed by the PTA.  This wonderful publication keeps families informed about what is going on in our community and at Holmes.  A hard copy of the Hawkeye is distributed to all students.  It is also posted on the web site and distributed through eBlast.  For those who do not have internet access, a hard copy is also posted on the bulletin boards and is available in the front office.  If you would like to submit an article, please email Janette Gradyan, Hawkeye Editor.  Read more about submission dates and guidelines.

PTA Association Meetings

PTA members are encouraged to attend Association Meetings, which are held the third Thursday of September, January, March and May.  During these meetings, PTA members make many important decisions, including:

·       electing the nominating committee and PTA officers

·       approving and ratify all expenditures

·       approving all programs, events and projects

·       adopting the budget and audit report

Email Holmes PTA at holmespta@yahoo.com with any questions.  Read More About Holmes PTA>>

SSC/SGT

The Holmes Elementary School Site Council (SSC) and the Holmes Elementary Site Governance Team (SGT) are an elected, decision-making group comprised of parents, teachers, the principal, school staff, and community members. Together, they do many great things for the students of Holmes Elementary. Meetings are open to the public and parents are encouraged to attend.  Read More>>

Open House

Open Houses are held twice a year, in September and in May.  The first open house is a Back to School Night.  This is an adult only event, giving parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher and hear what they have planned for the year.  The Spring Open House is for students and their parents/guardians to celebrate the students’ work and accomplishments.  When you come for Open House(s), you are welcome to stop by the auditorium for the Scholastic Book Fair (hosted by the Holmes PTA).

Monday Morning Announcements

Monday morning drop-off for grades 1-6 is a good time to hear weekly announcements and news from Mr. Saipe.  Parents/guardians are welcome to line up on the blacktop next to the blue playground.

Family Fridays
Parents are invited to meet with Principal, Jonathan Saipe, in the auditorium on the first Friday of every month from 9:10-9:45am. Come get updates about district and school news, learn a simple yet effective reading strategy, and have an opportunity to share ideas on how to make Holmes an even better school.  From approximately 9:45-10:15am parents will go to their child's classroom to read or participate in a learning activity.   Refreshments will be provided by the Holmes PTA.

Parent Conferences

On parent conference days, school will be dismissed at 1:15pm.  This is the ideal opportunity for you to review your child’s progress with their teacher.  Parent conference days are scheduled in November and March. Please schedule additional conferences with your child’s teacher any time you feel they are needed.

Volunteering

The best way to know what is going on at Holmes Elementary is to be a part of the action!  There are many ways you can help, including classroom support, one-time school events, and fundraisers to name a few. If you’d like to find out how you can volunteer just ask your child’s teacher or email Holmes PTALearn more about opportunities>>
