Kate Sessions Elementary

Dress Code

Sessions Elementary currently does not have a uniform dress code. The students and staff expect all pupils and personnel to have high standards of conduct and appearance.  However, it is an expectation that students wear clothing that is appropriate to the learning environment.  We request that students refrain from wearing open-toed shoes, shoes with wheels or sandals. Students are expected to play during portions of the day and the improper shoes could lead to injuries especially on P.E. days. In addition, we ask that children wear shirts that cover their upper torso.

San Diego typically gets very warm in the fall and spring. The sun can be very dangerous to their skin.  We encourage our students to wear hats while on the playground and field to assist with keeping the sun off of their faces.  We recommend that girls wear shorts under their dresses or skirts when playing games. This enables them the freedom of playing on equipment and in a variety of activities that could cause their clothing to shift during play time.

Clothing should be suitable and comfortable for normal school activities and should reflect the respect, pride, and good standards of the student’s home and community. A pupil’s clothing and appearance should not be of such extreme that it draws undue attention to the pupil nor should his/her clothing and appearance distract or interfere with the teaching and learning in the classroom.

General clothing standards for all children require that shoes must be worn at all times.

The following items are considered objectionable clothing for reasons of health and safety:

  • Backless shoes, flip flops, platform shoes, high heels
  • Half shirts, crop tops, halters, short shirts, clothes with gang/substance abuse, etc., clothing with logos
  • Jewelry - such as dangling earrings or long necklaces
  • Cosmetics
  • Long toothed combs
  • Sunglasses
  • Costumes
  • Hats in the buildings
