Attendance

Attendance Policy

Girls gym class

To increase students’ opportunities for success academically, we have established the following attendance policies:

Warning: Students who miss more than three days of class during a nine-week quarter (excused or unexcused) are required to attend Saturday School before the end of the grading period.

Clearing Absences

Absences must be cleared with a note or a call from the parent/guardian within three days of the absence. If not, the absence will be considered “unexcused” or “truant.” Please call the Attendance Office at (858) 496-8370 x2930 to clear an absence.

Make up of absences

Students must make up work missed due to absences within a reasonable amount of time. The student must make arrangements with his/her teachers. Makeup will cover any work missed during collaborative class work, labs, and other such activities. Credit for makeup work for “unexcused” absences is allowed only after student attends Saturday School.

Saturday School

Saturday School helps the student earn credit for the missed class work. Only academic activities will be offered during these sessions. Students who miss more than five days of class during a nine-week quarter (excused or unexcused) are required to attend Saturday School before the end of the grading period. Saturday School will be offered twice a month from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. Students will also be assigned Saturday School for the fourth and each subsequent tardy to each class per semester.

Tardy Sweeps

In order to ensure that students are regularly on time for classes, random tardy sweeps will be conducted throughout the school year. Students caught in a tardy sweep will be assigned Saturday School.

Medical Appointments

Medical Appointments should be scheduled outside of school hours to ensure that students receive maximum opportunities for instruction. A signed Doctor’s/Dentist’s note is required to excuse these absences. If your child must be excused during the school day for a medical appointment, please call or send a note to the office. A “Blue Slip” will be sent to the student in his/her class. The student must sign out in the DMD office before leaving campus.

Leaving Campus

Students may not leave the campus under any circumstances without the school receiving authorized permission from a parent/guardian. The student must sign out in the DMD office before leaving campus. Students leaving the site without authorization will be considered truant.
