PhysicalEducation Department Syllabus

Course Objectives:

Students will demonstrate knowledge and competency in motorskills, movement patterns and strategies needed to perform a variety ofphysical activities.  Students willachieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance whiledemonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies.

 

Expected School-wideLearning results of focus:

Mission Bay High physical education students arecollaborative workers who play well together. MBHS PE students are alsocritical thinkers who can problem solve on their own.

 

Grading Policy:Students are able to earn 200 total points per 4.5-week quarter to becumulative at the 9-week term for a total of 400 points as follows:

 

*100 points forparticipation points per quarter:

Participation points are earned by coming to class on time,suiting up and engaging in activities.

 

*40 points forfitness runs per quarter:

The fitness runs will be performed daily with the exceptionof rainy days. The fitness run distances will vary from day to day, asdetermined by your child’s instructor. Points will be assigned based onsatisfactory completion of the assigned run /walk for that day. 

 

*40 points forfitness testing per quarter:

Mile Run         (cardiovascularendurance)

Push-ups          (muscularstrength)

Curl-ups          (muscularendurance)

 

*10 points for skillsassessment per quarter:

Student develops and demonstrates the proper skills requiredfor the unit of study.

 

*10 points forwritten assessment per quarter:

One written assignment will be given every 4.5 weeks. It maybe a test, worksheet, report, or personal reflection.  The teacher will determine the type ofassessment.

 

Suiting Expectations:

All students will attend their PE class wearing the properattire, adhering to the site dress code.

Athletic shoes (required) NO Ugg boots, sandals, heels,flip-flops, ballet slippers etc

MBHS P.E. T-shirt $6.00 (recommended) or a plain or MBHSwhite or grey t-shirt

MBHS Shorts $9.00 or sweats $12.00 (optional)

Black or gray shorts or sweats of your own that are ofproper length and do not “sag”(optional)

 

Students earn 5 participation points per day that they areproperly suited and participate.

The following are ways to lose points:

Non-participation -5 points on alldays

Participation without properuniform -2 points

Miss Class (unexcused absence) -2points

Tardies -2 point per occurrence.

Truancies -5  points

Repeat offenders will be assignedSaturday school.

 

There will NOT be make-ups accepted for non-suits,non-participation, tardies and truancies. Students are expected to be in classon time and participate on all days.
