Welcome to Mission Bay High School
Here at Mission Bay, we strive to provide a peaceful and rigorous learning environment, with our unique block (4x4) schedule, and special classes and courses for all of our students. We are one of three schools in San Diego County who offer International Baccalaureate, which is a perfect way to prepare for college, based on the high intellectual standards needed. Mission Bay High School is located in the community of Pacific Beach, which is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. The school sits on a 55-acre site, with extensive athletic fields, 84 classrooms, including a gymnasium, a newly remodeled library, a small theater, a 790-seat auditorium, landscaped green areas, and student and faculty parking lots. Mission Bay High currently has an enrollment of 1,550 students. Mission Bay High School is a International Baccalaureate magnet school that encourages all students from SDUSD to apply for admission. Students living within the Pacific Beach area do not need to apply. Mission Bay High School receives federal funding through Title 1 support and from a Magnet Schools Assistance (MSAP) grant that was awarded to the school in the winter of 2010. The three-year MSAP grant allows MBHS to expand our IB program to a 9th and 10th grades Middle Years Programme (MYP) and allows for a more diverse and accessible IB experience for all students. MBHS takes pride in our rigorous curriculum based on the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) program. It not only prepares our students for college, but also gives them the possibility of earning an international diploma. By attending MBHS and taking an IB course, a graduate of MBHS is a more competitive candidate for admission to Universities throughout the United States. Our mission is to create a learning environment that meets the needs of students of all ability levels, maintains high standards, enhances self-esteem, and provides a broad range of educational experiences so that all students may become literate and ethical citizens who are prepared to enter higher education and the workplace in a changing global society. |
