National African American History Month
Leroy Homer
Homer grew up on in New York where he always dreamed of flying. As a child, he assembled model airplanes, collected aviation memorabilia and read books on aviation. He was 15 years old when he started flight instruction in a Cessna 152. Working part-time jobs after school to pay for flying lessons, he completed his first solo trip at the age of 16 and obtained his private pilot's certificate in 1983.
On July 6, 1983, he entered the United States Air Force Academy. As an upperclassman, he was a member of Cadet Squadron 31. After graduation he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
After completing his USAF pilot training he was assigned to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, flying a Lockheed C-141 Starlifter. While on active duty, he served in the Gulf War and later supported operations in Somalia. He received many commendations, awards and medals during his military career. Homer achieved the rank of captain before his honorable discharge from active duty and his acceptance of a Reserve Commission in order to continue his career as an Air Force officer.
Homer continued his military career as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve and during his time in the Air Force Reserve, he achieved the rank of major.
He continued his flying career by joining United Airlines in May, 1995. His first assignment was Second Officer on the Boeing 727. He then upgraded to First Officer on the Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 in 1996.
Leroy Homer was the First Officer of United Airlines Flight 93, which was hijacked as part of the September 11 attacks in 2001 which crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

If you are interested in seeing what the San Diego Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical High School, also known as the San Diego Met High School has to offer, you are invited to attend Principal’s Chat on Saturday, February 25 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Met High School which located at 7250 Mesa College Drive. The Met is located on the Mesa College Campus near the Tennis Courts. If you would like further information, you can pick up an application and event information in the CPMA Main Office.

2. Your trip assignment (the research paper)is due Tuesday, February 28. NO EXCEPTIONS!

The Hunger Games Premiere Event
Tickets are on sale now for the CPMA Premiere Event of The Hunger Games! Tickets are $25.00 for Preferred seating and $35.00 for VIP seating. All tickets include popcorn, soda, and raffle tickets. This is going to be a great event! Tickets are on sale in front of the library at lunch.

Our annual Pasta for Pennies donation drive begins Feb. 2 and runs until Feb. 22. We are asking all of our CPMA community to give generously this year. All proceeds go to help fund research and help for families for those battling leukemia. We will be asking for donations through the third period classes. The class who donates the most money will receive a catered lunch courtesy of the Olive Garden. The second place class will be treated to Krispy Kreme donuts and the third place class will receive ice cream. TeamASB! Members will be coming around to collect donations on Feb. 7th, 10th, 13th, 15th and the 22nd. Good luck to all the classes!
