Overview

Elizabeth Freese Arts and Culture Magnet School aims to provide every child with the educational skills needed for academic and career success.

As a magnet school, we educate our students with state-approved core curriculum with a special focus in our special subject area, arts and culture. Those subjects are woven into academic work to enrich learning and teach students a broader global perspective.

We apply rigorous standards to our learning, using multiple measures of testing and grading students to ensure their learning remains on target. We believe in being accountable to parents and the community and most of all, to our students. Please feel free to see our test scores and other academic measurements on the Academic Report Card (the SARC) on our website.  Approximately one-quarter of our students have tested into the Gifted and Talented Education program, called GATE.

Students explore topics with local artists, musicians, dancers and actors, on and off campus. More than twenty Partners-in-Education keep our magnet program enriching and lively.

Arts and Culture Magnet

The Freese Arts and Culture Magnet program is very special. In a time when arts programs have been severely cut from schools, Freese students are fortunate to have a thriving program where every student experiences arts education in the areas of visual arts, music, dance and theatre. Through a variety of arts rotations, every student has the opportunity to express and expand his or her own talents.

The magnet theme is integrated throughout the curriculum. Visiting artists, actors, dancers, poets, photographers, and musicians work with classroom teachers to provide students with exposure to the arts. Trips to museums, concerts, plays, and dance performances are part of each year’s curriculum as well.

Currently, Freese has more than 20 Partners-in-Education who support our magnet and provide us with opportunities for both daytime and evening activities. We encourage our Freese families to join us on these adventures to concerts, museums, theatre, and dance performances.
