Are there regular opportunities to get involved? Take action is the highest form of service: Plan your own event. Ask your teacher how to start. Or...Check our service opportunities webpage and our weekly bulletin events and ideas. Join a club and earn service: Builders, Garden, Eco, Yearbook, Video, Model United Nations, etc. Storefront Dinner: Sponsor a dinner for 24 hungry teens. Plan, prepare and deliver dinner on the first Thursday of the month. Contact Builders Club Advisor for more information. jsims@sandi.net. PB Town Council Beach Clean Up: First Saturday of the month, 9am. Attend with parent. Document all service hours in your planner to be eligible for surprise recognition events, end-of-the-year activities and awards. Collection drives: EcoPhones: used cell phones, iPods, printer cartridges. Drop off to Builders Club for 30 minutes of service for each. Box Tops: Drop off to the secretary for FOPBSS for 30 minutes of service per full sandwich bag. Soda Tabs: Drop off to Builders Club for 30 minutes of service per full sandwich bag. To benefit Ronald McDonald House at Children Hospital. NOTE: Administration is considering the following for 2013-2014 school year: Only 1/4 of your hours can be satisfied with a collection drive or fundraisers. Yes: volunteering at church, Women's Club, Scouts, or other non-profit organization. Walking in a walk like Diabetes, Susan G. Komen, or Heart Walk. Yes, joining an outside club like Jr. Marines, or Scouts. Yes: performing for the community - Jr. Marines marching in the Mr. Luther King Jr. Parade; dancing Folklórico in Old Town; band playing at Balboa Park or at BeachFest. No: house or family chores, helping a parent, neighbor or private business. That is your regular obligation as a family member and a neighbor. If you're not sure, see Mrs. Sims. If you are participating in an off site service activity it is district policy to have a transportation waiver on file. Waivers are available in the front office. |
