Pacific Beach Middle is an International Baccalaureate World School, one of only 809* schools worldwide authorized to deliver the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). One of three prestigious academic IB programs, the MYP is designed to help all students develop a positive attitude toward learning and to participate actively in an ever-changing and increasingly interrelated world. Eight Core Subject Areas Arts Humanities Language A: English Language B: Spanish Mathematics Physical Education Sciences Technology Five Areas of Interaction Teachers help students build connections between subject areas by organizing and designing curriculum that focuses on five globally relevant areas of interaction. These ideas are not unique to San Diego, California or even the United States. Everyone, throughout the world learns about themselves and others through five similar areas of interaction. Through these areas students come to understand the international perspective that is gained through the IB MYP. As a requirement of being an IB World School our faculty in all eight subject areas have redesigned the curriculum to exceed the California standards. All lessons have been rewritten to to include a one-of-a-kind curriculum focused on the areas of interaction. At our school students are expected to become involved in addressing local and global issues.
