Writers' Corner Club

Writers' Corner Club
For three years now, students from grades 2 through 5 have met weekly in Mr. Patterson's first grade classroom to develop their talents as writers. Each year, more than 60 kids participate in the "Writers' Corner." Mr. Patterson and children's author Gordon Page have put together a writing program that builds students' skills in creativity, revision, and polished delivery, through a spectrum of writing genres that include mysteries, short stories, and poetry.  The students look forward to periodic "open mics" around San Diego, where they are given opportunity to share their writing. Locales have included the bonfire pits at Shelter Island, "The Trail," "Centifonti's," and "Corvette Diner" restaurants, and the Kroc Center and Cygnet theaters.  Parents and students alike rave about how much they enjoy "Writers' Corner," and how much the children grow as writers.  "Writers' Corner" has become an important component to Benchley Weinberger's Communications Magnet Program.

Writers' Corner will begin January 2013.  Informational flyers will be sent home soon.
