First Presbyterian Church Perks up Perkins

The First Presbyterian Church came to Perkins on August 28th for the 3rd annual beautification day before the start of classes.  Ben Montoya, from First Presbyterian, organized the event to the benefit of the students at Perkins.  About 60 volunteers showed up at 8 AM and stayed until 3 PM on Saturday making sure that the campus was as beautifully clean as possible.  There was a team of volunteers that cleaned windows, another team that painted two classrooms, and individuals that power-washed all the walkways, walls, and exterior ceilings.  Our playground equipment was refurbished, and brand new balls were purchased for our students.  The principal held a parent meeting at 11:30 am and well over 150 parents attended.  Lunch was provided free of charge by First Presbyterian.  The parents were very impressed by the hard work and dedication displayed by the volunteers.  They were amazed that they donated an entire day for the benefit of Perkins School.  Lunch was a community feast as parents and volunteers came together and interacted.  Parents thanked the volunteers and praised the wonderful work.  Several youth from First Presbyterian supervised the children in the jumpies while parents attended the meeting with the principal. 
First Presbyterian has organized many events for our community.  Last year, Diana Roberts, came in several times to organize and provide intensive art instruction for third grade students.  Students took home projects that are already family treasures.  The entire community in Barrio Logan is indebted to the giving spirit and selfless dedication of time of the volunteers from First Presbyterian Church in downtown San Diego.
La inglesia First Presbyterian vino a Perkins el 28 de agosto para el día de limpieza antes del comienzo de clases.  Ben Montoya, de la inglesia First Presbyterian, organizó el evento para el beneficio de los estudiantes de Perkins.  Alrededor de 60 voluntarios llegaron a las ocho de la mañana y se quedaron hasta las tres trabajando para embellecer a la escuela.  Hubo un equipo de voluntarios que limpió ventanas, otro que pintó aulas, otro que limpió con agua a presión todas las aceras, paredes, y techos.  Renovaron equipo atlético y nos compraron muchas pelotas nuevas.  El director tuvo una junta con padres a las 11:30 y más de 150 padres asistieron.  First Presbyterian proveó la comida.  Los padres estuvieron muy impresionados por la labor y dedicación de los voluntarios.  Estuvieron impresionados que hayan dado un día completo para la limpieza del plantel.  Durante el almuerzo padres y voluntarios compartieron conversaciones.  Se les agradeció de todo corazón, por el trabajo que hicieron, al los miembros de la comunidad de First Presbyterian.  Jóvenes de la iglesia también ayudaron a supervisar a niños mientras que sus padres asistieron a la junta.
First Presbyterian ha organizado varios eventos para nuestra comunidad.  Durante el último año escolar, Diana Roberts vino varias veces para organizar una instrucción de arte para los alumnos de tercer grado.  Los estudiantes llevaron a casa proyectos que ya son tesoros dentro de la famila.  Todo la comunidad del Barrio Logan está agradecida por la dedicación y atención que nos rinden los miembros de First Presbyterian del centro de San Diego.
