Partners and Volunteers

We are grateful for our partners and volunteers that provide fantastic support to our students each and every day. Whether contributions from the community, our alumni or business partners, their efforts are a part of the education and growth of each of our students.  We are especially grateful for the support of our Mission Federal Credit Union partners, who have supported Juarez for more than 10 years!  MFCU is visible at all school wide events, and sponsors twice monthly Mission 2 Save Days on our campus, giving students opportunity to open or make deposits into savings accounts.  Our SDSU Department of Psychology tutors provide service learning hours on campus supporting students.  Historically, Federal Work Study tutors are provided to us by Thomas Jefferson School of Law.  Our neighborhood businesses, Murphy Canyon Vons and Aero Drive McDonald's generously support school activities.  Be sure to thank them with your patronage!

The Year of the School Volunteer

Year of the School VolunteerResearch supports that individual adult attention is a key contributor to student achievement and overall success in life. On September 8, 2009, the Board of Education adopted a resolution designating 2009-2010 as the Year of the School Volunteer. The resolution recognizes and applauds the efforts of all school volunteers, site principals, faculty and staff, and calls on the San Diego community to continue to engage in volunteer activities in support of our Mission Statement.

We appreciate the many parents, businesses, non-profit organizations, community members, professional organizations, college students, higher education institutions and military groups already involved in the education of our students. Currently, nearly 28,000 volunteers work in a variety of capacities in the San Diego Unified School District.

Volunteers help support education through a wide range of school-related opportunities, including tutoring, mentoring, classroom read alouds, classroom assistance, non-classroom assistance (field trips, media center, site beautification), organization involvement (PTA, school foundation, School Site Council), and before- and after-school programs.

Year of the School Volunteer activities will provide increased opportunities for the San Diego community to invest in the success of our students, especially where the need is greatest. A special emphasis is being placed on the importance of reading.
