For over a century, Florence Elementary has educated multiple generations of students. Located in the heart of Hillcrest, our school was built and inspired by the great Italian center of the Renaissance, the eternal city of Florence. It is only fitting that our campus has virtually every wall and surface adorned with colorful and welcoming artwork created in part by the students themselves.

As Principal Mary Hope Estill explains, "This is not just the school they go to. This is their school." Our children participate in a multitude of activities and programs:

·         Strong relationship with UCSD School of Education; student teacher partnership allows for cutting edge demonstrations with UCSD faculty

·         UCSD mentors for upper grades

·         UCSD Engineering Society provides hands on-activities for upper grades to support Science and Math

·         YMCA Physical Activity Program (P.A.P.) weekly for all grade levels

·         Modeling Club

·         Prime Time program cross age grouping allows for school wide community to be supported

·         Grade level tutoring before or after school four times a week

·         School Foundation supported Family Nights

·         Upper Grade Music Program with Chorus, Band and Orchestra

·         Daily Running Club

·         K-2 Visual and Performing Arts Grant to support Literacy via Dance, Theater and Art instruction

·         3-5 Visual and Performing Arts Grant to support Science via Dance, Theater, and Art instruction
