Meet Principal Gina Camacho-McGrath
I am proud to be the principal of this special school, where so many people work hard to make a difference for our students. We are like a small town here, all the students know each other, our teachers know everybody's name, they may have even taught the parents of our current students -- Fletcher is a school where people like to stay. Even our former students like to return to help out as volunteers, that's how strong an impact our school has.
Our school has a long tradition of excellence, dating back a half-century. That tradition is backed up with one of the pioneering visionaries who helped make modern San Diego the great city that it is -- Ed Fletcher, our school's namesake.
This is my third year at this jewel of a school, small and precious and filled with lively and engaged students. I became an educator at first by fate, for I was a student athlete and started college at San Diego State University expecting to have a career in sports medicine. Once I took classes in education, I was hooked. I went on to earn my master's degree from San Diego State, and became a classroom teacher before training as an educational leader in San Diego Unified.
A lot of hard work has been invested in helping our students reach their potential, no matter what challenges they face. That dedication creates a climate of collegiality. People give above and beyond here. My goal is to maintain this excellence, and add my flavor to it.
